Like I said before, we went up to SF to hang with the cast and crew, have food, sangria, and laughs. Baker's beach (the original BM spot) was fun to see.

Burningman 2008 - Temple + MS Photosynth

Ok, I now understand how this works. I would need to redo this set to properly "Synth" it, but I think for my first run, this works just fine. Maybe there is a way to edit it so that I can place things in their correct positions. Anyway, just click on the "Go to Next Cluster" button at the upper right part of the little controls and then navigate by clicking on the differnt picture panes. It's a bit weak but some of the stuff is cool.

Intermission 1: Golden Gate Panorama

I have other good pictures from a nice little meetup with the Cast of BM08 in San Francisco. It was a beautiful HOT day, and we went to Baker's Beach. Beautiful view of the Golden Gate Bridge. I have some other very nice pictures, but I am running out of steam tonight, and need to drop Dave off at the airport at 7am tomorrow.

Burningman 2008 - Another Day

Byron the DJ was the hero of Burningman 2006 with Winking Lotus. He brought his whole crew to help with the dome, and he DJ'd the entire time. It was incredible to see him again at HD this year. What a guy. I also got to see this cool dust devil and snap a quick pic before it dissapated.


And NOW, a brief intermission while I process all of the sunset Temple pictures, which are pretty beautiful if I say so myself. I am also going to try to do a "Synth" this new MS program that allows a person to virtually tour a set of pictures, and since I have so many of the Temple, it should turn out interestingly.

Burningman 2008 - And Later that Same Day...

After the Tower, we went back to Hookahdome to get ready for the night. After having a good laugh seeing the guys all decked out for a Thunderdome match, we went into the dome to hear one of the most beautiful things to ever grace these 27 year old ears. Meet Matthew Schoening everyone, and remember that name. He has an electric cello that he plays with a looping box. He takes beats that he makes with the cello and the layers other rhythms and percussion and and and on top of layer layer layer. It is incredible, and I cannot wait to hear him play live again. AMAZING!



I'd like to point out the sparks from someone walking across the dome with a newly lit coal for a hookah.

Burningman 2008 - A Second Babylon Sunset

I didn't take any pictures on the next day, whatever day was "next". However, we went to the Tower of Babylon again for sunset, this time with a full crew. I managed to snag some cool pictures on the way to the tower and while up there. It really was the best spot for sunsets.


This is Black Rock City- it is huge, huger than ever before, I need to get better at reducing the variation across my pictures!

This is the Land Shark, it is a desert creature lurking in the depths of the playa. It only comes out once a year to hunt for miscreant Burners, and to mate with other Land Sharks.

This art car played the funniest lounge versions of pop songs like, I'm Blue, Common Baby Hit Me One More Time, and others. It was pretty ridiculous.

Sara was a Hookan from Canada who worked her ass of on hospitality.

There are beached whales on the playa, and the only thing to save Burners from the lurking land sharks.

Burningman 2008 - Second Night (The epic search for the potty)

This night me and Liz went out on the town (sort of speak) and more or less random walked our way through the night. The one ever present goal was to find a bathroom. Unfortunately, this didn't occur until we, "Went to one we knew was there." A rather sad yet hilariously ridiculous quest.

Along the way we found these tikish torches that were hooked up to a person's heartbeat.

Burningman 2008 - Hookahdome and First Sunset

After chilling for the rest of the day, I hung out in the Hookahdome as things were starting to get rocking. Have a little smoke, a nice pillow under your butt, and a chica at your side- great way to start out the evening. Then, me and Funkminster-Fluff went out to catch the sunset at the tower of Babylon. It is a skeleton of a 10 story structure made of I-beams and recycled construction materials which makes for some great views and sunsets. We spent three different sunsets up here total, and I loved every one of them. The whole entire building was swaying from the movement of the people and the wind, which was kinda freaky, but awesome as well. I hope to turn some of these sweeping shots into a panorama of all of BRC, but they are handheld and Autopano freaks out sometimes with handheld panos, so we'll just have to wait and see.

Burningman 2008 - First Playa Adventure

The second day was BEAUTIFUL! A classic and perfect BRC day, full of heat, blue skies, and nekkid females. Well, not only females, there were plenty of naked dudes too. On this particular day Dave and I went out to the Man to take some pictures and returned for a bike ride around the Esplanade. I saw the first of many "government notice" signs. They were definitely a lark. We then went back to camp and picked up the crew to go out on an adventure. Nick did some rather interesting bar tending while there was some spanking going on in the background, and we did a quick visit of center camp to fill out the BRC census. I tuckered out by the time we made it around to 9 o'clock, and headed back for some rest.

Burningman 2008 - First Day/Night

Upon arrival at 4am, we set up our tent, unloaded the Great Grey Walrus (aka the rented Dodge Caravan), and managed to sleep for a few hours. We awoke when the heat in the tent became too much (par for the course) and managed to see the sky for a few moments before the first dust storm rolled into the city. So, we spent the day working on the Hookahdome infrastructure and getting the last bits of the dome ready for Burners to enjoy along with just trying to adjust to the desert. Finally, around dark the dust cleared and I got a couple of nice sunsetish pics. For the evening we all got a little crazy and partied in the Hookahdome. Talked to burners while keeping the hookahs going, watching the door, and chilled out on the pillows. During one particular bathroom break, Liz and I found the Red Eye Diner, a totally cool little 50s style diner that serves many different things on their menu (which are all actually grilled cheese). I think these pics are funny because it reminds me of the famous painting with the movie stars chilling at the diner.
